Considered in the past as a military weapon, drones are now entering every part of society. Sales of drones to businesses and consumers will more than triple to become a $2 billion market by 2020. Better performing and affordable drones will make their way into our airspace within the next several years.

Drone Market Trends and Forecasts

BI Intelligence, Business Insider's premium research service, defines drones as aerial vehicles that can fly autonomously or be piloted by a remote individual. Under that criterion, BI Intelligence expects sales of drones to surpass $12 billion in 2021. That's up by a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.6% from $8.5 billion in 2016.

Production of drones for personal and commercial use is growing rapidly, with global market revenue expected to increase 34 percent to reach more than $6 billion in 2017 and grow to more than $11.2 billion by 2020, according to a new forecast from Gartner, Inc (see Table 1). Almost three million drones will be produced in 2017, 39 percent more than in 2016 (see Table 2).

This growth will occur across the three main segments of the drone industry: Consumer Drones, Enterprise Drones (also known as Commercial Drones), and Government Drones.

Sales of drones: dollars vs. units

There are currently two major markets for drones with very different growth prospects: the military market, which accounts for the vast majority of demand in dollar terms, and the consumer market, which accounts for over 99 percent of all units sold. US Department of Defense spending for drones is forecast to climb at a moderate pace through 2020 due to tight budgets and a shift in focus to smaller, less expensive vehicles. Consumer and commercial applications, on the other hand, are in the early stages of development. Over the next decade, civilian uses are expected to grow at robust rates similar to those posted by smartphones following the introduction of the iPhone in 2007. However, the military will continue to be a key developer of drone technology.

With so many possible uses for drones, there is a wide spectrum of those that want to use them or sell them:

4. Utilities (electric, water, natural gas)
5. Retailers (Amazon, Best Buy, Toys R Us, Walmart)

Microsoft is buying the professional social network LinkedIn for $26.2 billion (£18.5bn) in one of the biggest technology deals in history.

The news, announced on Monday afternoon, instantly sent LinkedIn's share price soaring by 50 percent in pre-market trading. The deal be the biggest in Microsoft's history. Microsoft's shares fell 3.5 percent on the news.

Microsoft said LinkedIn boss Jeff Weiner would stay in charge and report to Satya Nadella.

“The LinkedIn team has grown a fantastic business centered on connecting the world’s professionals,” Nadella said. “Together we can accelerate the growth of LinkedIn, as well as Microsoft Office 365 and Dynamics as we seek to empower every person and organization on the planet.”

 

Microsoft says it's buying the professional social network company LinkedIn in a cash deal valued at $26.2 billion.

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana – Updated List of Authorised Banks to Open an Account, Specimen Application Form & Passbook Posted: 16 Mar 2015 08:41 AM PDT This post is written by Shiv Kukreja, who is a Certified Financial Planner and runs a financial planning firm, Ojas Capital in Delhi/NCR. He can be reached at skukreja@investitude.co.in RBI on March 11 issued a Circular to the authorised commercial banks to start observing the rules and regulations of Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana as per the Government of India Notification dated December 2, 2014. This circular has been marked to the Chairman & Managing Directors (CMDs) and Managing Directors (MDs) of some of the commercial banks operating in India. These banks include most of the public sector banks, including State Bank of India (SBI), Bank of Baroda (BoB) and Punjab National Bank (PNB) and a few private sector banks also, including Axis Bank and ICICI Bank. RBI has instructed these banks to approach Central Account Section, Reserve Bank of India, Nagpur for necessary arrangements to report Sukanya Samriddhi Account transactions with immediate effect. I think it means the RBI wants these banks to start opening accounts under this scheme without any further delays and the subscribers will not have to wait more to open their accounts. They can now approach these authorised banks to open an account. Though it is still not clear if only these banks would act as the agency banks to open accounts under this scheme or some other banks would also join in, but it seems the following 28 banks would definitely be among all those banks authorised to open Sukanya Samriddhi Accounts (SSA).
