The State of the Internet Q3_2010 by Akamai - Very Interesting

Dear All,

Here is one very much interesting and very much informative reports from Akamai over Internet penetration in various countries and cities across the globe.

Some findings are really interesting like:-

à       Maximum attack traffic originated from United States, Russia and China which are 12%, 8.9% & 8.2% respectively.

à       In the list of top 100 cities having fastest internet connection, 61 are from Japan and 13 from South Korea. With South Korea only in top 10 & cities of these two countries only are there in Top 45!!!

à       When it comes to Broadband Connection Speed, 72% connections in South Korea having average speed more than 5 MB, where as 60% connections in Japan having Avg. speed of more than 5 MB.

à       All 13 Cities of South Korea having peak internet speed between 57MB to 37 MB !!! and 60 Cities of Japan reported peak internet speed between 47MB to 26 MB.

It is good that all cities of US, Russia and China don’t have very fast internet connectivity; else Attack traffic may create big issue across the globe.

Last few pages of report are on Mobile Connectivity & finally don’t forget to check Endnotes on the page 31, which is having links to few other good reports and news on same topic.
