Indian IT Managers Among the Lowest Paid in the World

Indian IT Managers Among the Lowest Paid in the World

NWC News Network, Oct. 18 2007, 1630 hrs

Information technology (IT) managers in India, earning an average of $25,000 (Rs 9.93 lakh) annually, are among the lowest paid in the world; their counterparts in Switzerland take home a pay cheque of $140,960.
India was ranked fourth from the bottom, since Indian IT managers get an average salary of $25,000 a year.

These are among the findings of a new survey by human resource consulting firm Mercer, part of Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc. Mercer’s 2007 IT Pay Around the World survey finds that employers in western Europe are the best paymasters in the IT sector.
The survey compared the total annual cash compensation and total remuneration information for IT staff in 6,545 companies across 35 different countries.
IT managers in India, however, fare better than their peers in Vietnam, Bulgaria and the Philippines, who receive the lowest pay, respectively, at $15,470, $22,240 and $22,280 a year. “The reasons for better compensation can be attributed to quality of talent and India’s growing presence at the high end of the IT value chain, where cost advantages may not be the only driver for future growth,” says Gangapriya Chakraverti, business leader, information product solutions, Mercer, India.

David Van De Voort, IT workforce specialist in Mercer’s Chicago office said in the survey release, “Lower-level roles are being moved to regions where talent is cheaper. The jobs that remain in western Europe and the US may be fewer in number, but are more demanding and complex roles, like vendor relationship manager, internal consultant and IT business partner.”

The correlation between experience or skill level and pay differ in different countries. Large pay gaps exist between junior and senior executives in Indonesia, India, Brazil, Chile and Vietnam. Vietnam pays the least to junior staff at $5,570 followed by the Philippines and India at $8,130 and $9,630, respectively.

Be Careful while eating apples

Pls don't eat the skin of the apple if it's coated with wax ...Pls. check before you eat many of the fruits here in Gulf, WAX is being used as preservation Purposes and then cold stored. You might be surprised especially apples from USA and other parts are more than one year old, though it would look fresh.

T-Mobile data service collapses

Published Tuesday 9th October 2007 10:33 GMT

T-Mobile joined the ranks of proper mobile operators with its own inadequately-explained network outage - losing data connectivity across its network for around four hours yesterday morning.

The outage left BlackBerry users, among others, disconnected and reliant on actually calling people up and speaking to them in order to stay in touch.

But all is now fixed, and T-Mobile tells us that "...steps have been taken to prevent a reoccurrence". So that's alright, then.

T-Mobile now join the likes ofOrange (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/09/07/orange_network_failure/) and Vodafone (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/09/06/vodafone_network_failure/) in thinking we'll take their word for it that they've fixed all their problems, though none are as extreme as 3 Ireland (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/09/07/three_ireland_problems_again/), which is still assuring everyone that its Mobile Broadband service is working perfectly in the face of irrefutable evidence to the contrary.

So now we're just waiting for the O2 network to fail without explanation and we'll have a full set, though the purists might want to see the 3UK network falling over too, just for completeness. ®
